turnerbates worked with Cullinan Studios at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Hyde Hall on the masterplanning of the site, helping to shape key visitor areas and amenities. Our work included the design of the Hilltop Café and Learning Centre, the creation of a new entrance, and the Clover Café, as well as exploring retail opportunities and new visitor facilities such as toilets.
This work formed part of the wider Hilltop development, which has since been recognised with a 2020 Civic Trust Award, one of Europe’s most established honours celebrating projects that deliver meaningful social and environmental value. The reimagined Hilltop brings together a series of carefully composed buildings, including a dedicated education space and a field-to-fork restaurant with an associated activity barn. Designed to sit comfortably within the surrounding landscape, the scheme creates spaces that can be experienced throughout the year, supporting the RHS’ ambition to promote excellence and engagement in horticulture.
We collaborated closely with award-winning landscape designer Adam Frost, who led the landscaping strategy, to ensure a cohesive and engaging experience across the gardens and visitor spaces.
