John Turner
John Turner has gained extensive experience across heritage, hospitality and commercial projects. He began his professional career at Leslie Jones Architects before joining The Design Solution, contributing to Bluewater, Kent; retail for Cerruti, Villeroy & Boch and Crabtree & Evelyn; and a Grade II* project in Mayfair, where he first worked with Howard. Travels through Central America, a love of food and heritage work led him into hospitality, including the Grade II* conversion of 160 Piccadilly into The Wolseley.
He later became Director and then Partner at Hawkins Brown, delivering award-winning heritage, commercial and education projects. John co-founded turnerbates with Howard to work closely with clients, combining hands-on senior input with clear delivery. He has since led residential, workplace, hospitality, food hall and outlet retail projects for Chelsea Harbour, Euroclear, Five Guys UK, The Restaurant Group, the RHS, The Alchemist, Tristan Capital, Vastint UK and local authorities.

Howard Bates
Howard Bates studied at the Royal College of Art where he was awarded his MA. Early roles at Din Associates and The Design Solution – where he first collaborated with John Turner – led to sixteen years at award-winning Greig & Stephenson, progressing from Associate to Director.
He delivered UK and international projects for developers, retailers and hospitality brands including Borough Market, Leicester Market, British Land, Marks & Spencer, Jack Wills, Selfridges, HMV, Waterstones, ASK Italian and Tapas Brindisa.
In 2012 he co-founded turnerbates, shaping hospitality, workplace, leisure and retail schemes. Since 2017 he has partnered closely with international developer Vastint, completing projects across the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland and Romania.
