BEAR Coffee Company, Multiple Sites

Inspired by Australian coffee house culture that emphasises socialising, wellness and craft coffee, BEAR Coffee Company is definitely #NotAnotherCoffeeShop.

In 2016, turnerbates were appointed by BEAR Coffee Company to transform their new space within a derelict Grade II Victorian bank, to much success. Since then, we have worked with the entrepreneurs to design four more flexible coffee, bar and dining spaces across the Midlands – from the bustling Intu Centre in Derby to a prime quayside location in up-and-coming Northwich. These welcoming venues provide customers with an all-day offer comprising of specialty coffee, fresh food, cocktails and craft beer.

After meeting at the Restaurant & Bar Design Show, we were appointed by BEAR Coffee Company to transform a listed Victorian bank in Derby’s historic Cathedral Quarter into a flexible all-day coffee, bar and dining experience. The chosen site had been butchered by its previous tenants and needed major and sensitive refurbishments.

We considered carefully how the shopfront would fit in its cultural surroundings, and the original features, such as cornices and iron colonnades, and history of the listed building were emphasised and incorporated into the design.

“It’s been a great opportunity for us as a small brand to work with a leading design company. turnerbates have really helped us establish and develop an on-brand interior design style that we feel confident and excited to continue rolling out across our future stores.”
