New BEAR Ashbourne branch opening Spring 2023
We’ve been waiting to share this news since we revealed that we were looking at new sites – turnerbates is excited to announce that BEAR Coffee Company is opening their sixth branch in the Derbyshire town of Ashbourne. The new café, bar and restaurant is giving new life to the old iconic building that housed the famous Bennetts department store.
BEAR has picked the perfect location – Ashbourne is the ideal spot for adventure seekers. The town is located a stone’s throw away from the Peak District and the surrounding countryside is ideal for cycling, rock climbing and hiking. Ashbourne prides itself on its collection of historical buildings, independent shops and winding cobbled streets that are packed full of Tudor and Georgian heritage. Throughout the design process, turnerbates are working with the building to preserve the history and character of the space, such as the signature exposed brick walls and the recognisable facade.
In their own blog announcing the new branch, BEAR says: “We’re super proud of our Midlands heritage, with our story being rooted on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. Continuing our journey in such an iconic location in Ashbourne feels like the perfect way to pay homage to both the space and our history across the two counties.”

BEAR Ashbourne will also be amongst the first to host the coffee brand’s new evening events. Every Friday and Saturday from 4pm, BEAR will be “bringing the party” with their fully-stacked menu and classic cocktails in an exciting new late-night schedule.
We are incredibly grateful to have been working with BEAR so many years after meeting the Craig, Michael and Chris at our stand at the Restaurant & Bar Design show in 2016. We can’t wait for you to see the new BEAR branch, coming Spring 2023!
