Hillman Street, Hackney, London

Built on a constrained brownfield site adjacent to a railway embankment and listed Town Hall, the new 35,000sqft building offers flexible and lettable office accommodation for the local authority.

An exposed concrete frame enables the thermal mass to assist in the heating and cooling for the building. The facades have durable European sized facing bricks for robustness at low level, large sealed glazing units and insulated ‘Metsec’ sections with anodized aluminium rain screen panels. Green and brown rooves and heat recovery enabled the building to achieve a Very Good BREEAM rating.
